The New LIbrary

This is the outside of the new library located in the back of the ashram. It is really very impressive. Is basically circular with one large main room down stairs for public gatherings and book shelves on the second. There is a certain Frank Llloyd Wright sensibility to the structure. The is a sweeping,round stair case on the left side of the building to access the second floor. It is not a ramp and it does not have steps. There are very shallow, slightly raised cuts that work their way up the structure. The first floor is all windows and the walls are in two semis circles that do not connect. It has a very organic feel and when you are inside it feels as if you are part of the outside environment.
