lunch @ karuna's

My friend karuna and his wife had me over for lunch yesterday. food here is a bit of a paradox. South Indian food is delicious, but the indian restaurants are not clean so we are forced to eat in restaurants that are set for for westerners. they serve such yummys as, lasagna with fried egg top, spagetti with tomato, cheese( not very pretty) or enchiladas (not so bad really) karna has a friend that has a roadside "dahba" that serves reeal good fried chicken in spicy gravey. the food is delicious but it is open air and covered in dust kicked up by the passing trucks. This food is really a treat. On the menu that day was spicy tiger prawns, fried King fish, potatoes and various vedddie delight. You drench every thing in a spicy soup called Sambar. mix everything up with your fingers and dig in. I had three helping of everything, Karuna's wife made mango pickels, she dries out fesh mangoes and then pickels them in garlic, vinegar, tumers and chilly pepper. Sweet, rubbery nad spicy. yummy!
